Kids Doing Awesome Things in Roanoke - The Cawley Kids

Spotlight on Kids Who Are Active in their Community: A Chat with Hailey and Ryan Cawley

By North Fort Worth Macaroni Kid November 15, 2023

Hey there, neighbors! 🏡 We had a quick convo with the awesome Cawley kids, Hailey (5th grade) and Ryan (4th grade).

The amazing things these two kids are doing in our community is making an impact in ways that could teach a lesson to all of us. Their Mom, Erica, let us sit down with them talk all about what inspired them to be active in community service in Roanoke, TX.

What got you interested in getting involved in your community?

Hailey: "For our family, it's about bringing positivity to our community's future. With all the negativity out there, it feels great to see everyone come together to help others."

Can you tell us about a project that really meant a lot to you?

Ryan: "Definitely our Ice Cream Stand for School Supplies. Selling ice cream helped us buy school supplies for Roanoke Elementary School. It made us realize how important these supplies are and that not everyone can afford them."

Share a moment or lesson from your community involvement that meant a lot to you…

Hailey: "It's all about making a difference. It showed us the power we have as two kids and how the community can come together to help others who may need it."

Do you remember a funny or unforgettable moment while helping out in your neighborhood?

Ryan: "The best was when the whole community joined us at the ice cream stand – even the police, our school principal - Ms. Appling, and city hall workers. It made us proud to see everyone supporting us."

What tips would you give other kids who want to start their own community projects?

Hailey: "Team up! We worked with friends and reached out to the police department in Roanoke and the city for more support. It made a huge difference."

How do your parents help manage balancing school, friends, sports, and community involvement?

Ryan: "Our parents let us try everything. If we like it, they support us. If not, they help us find something we enjoy. That's how we juggle it all!"

Share a moment when things got difficult and how you handled it…

Hailey: "It was tough balancing sports and family time. I was invited to an upper-level basketball team but chose to spend time with friends, family, and other activities."

What are your future plans for community involvement?

Ryan: "Another ice cream stand, the 3rd one! Plus, a community clean-up day to clean up the neighborhood trash."

What hobbies or activities do you enjoy in your free time?

Hailey: "We collect Pokemon cards. We love basketball!!! We also think WWE cards and video games are lots of fun. We also play soccer and baseball."

Tell us about a place in your town that you really love.

Ryan: "Downtown Roanoke! It's got the best shops, the museum, and Hey Sugar! -the candy store. It's the place we take our family when they're in town."

Do you have a favorite spot that's special to you?

Hailey: "Chick-fil-A in Roanoke! Our mom took us there for story time when we were little, and now it's our favorite place for playdates after school. It's great for snacks and hangouts."

Any local events or parties you look forward to every year?

Ryan: "The Roanoke Hometown Holiday Celebration! We're excited to be in the parade this year with our family and friends. We are even building a float for everyone to enjoy."

What makes these events fun for you and your neighbors?

Hailey: "Seeing everyone in Roanoke coming together – local businesses and our neighbors – that's what makes it so exciting!"

A big shoutout to Hailey, Ryan, and their awesome parents for being a shining example of how kids can truly make a difference in their community.

Keep spreading that positivity, guys! 👏✨
